Why Do They Do It?

A small minority of dog owners in Mid Beds have developed a peculiar habit recently.

They are going to the bother of picking up after their dogs yet are ignoring the bins in place and hanging the bags along a fence!  Many of our parks, footpaths and open countyside areas are being spoiled by irresponsible dog owners discarding bagged dog waste in hedgerows and on fences.

Mid Beds is pleased that the message of picking up dog waste is being heard but we do ask that that everyone takes the next step and disposes of it properly. Most of the plastic bags used as 'pooper scoopers' are not biodegradable and may litter an area for months.

Cllr Budge Wells, Environment Portfolio Holder said,
“Throughout the District, Mid Beds has provided around 350 dog waste bins and there are over 500 ordinary litter bins that can be used for bagged dog waste. Many of the Town and Parish Councils also provide bins on their recreation grounds but even if there isn't a bin close by there is no excuse for throwing the bags in a hedge, instead they should be carried home if necessary and placed in their own residual black lidded bin.

“I applaud dog owners that clear up after their dog but please dispose of the bags thoughtfully.”

Dog fouling continues to be a problem in certain parts of Mid Beds and the Council will serve Fixed Penalty Notices, carrying a fine of £75,  to dog owners who do not clear up after their pet.

Residents can report incidents of owners not clearing up after their dogs to Mid Beds on 08452 30 40 40 and we will investigate.
