Spark’s Campaign To Save The Environment
The group from Redborne Upper School have produced leaflets, bookmarks and posters to raise awareness of global warming. They offer handy hints on saving the environment, including:
Ø Turn Off unwanted lights and don’t leave things on standby.
Ø Have a compost heap in your garden
Ø Walk and cycle instead of getting a lift. Liftshare with friends where possible to reduce the number of cars on the road.
Ø Take showers instead of baths
Ø Recycle more
Ø Generate your own energy with Sun Jars (£10). They store up daytime light and then glow when it is dark
Sparks are also asking young people to plant a tree, to show they are committed to helping with global warming. Just one mature beech tree can process one kilogramme of Carbon Dioxide in 30 minutes. Anyone planting a tree can send on a photograph of the planting and location of the tree to Katy Henman, Youth Participation Officer at Mid Beds District Council and receive a certificate.
Katy Henman said: “The young people in Sparks are passionate about caring for the environment and leaving the planet in a better state for future generations of young people. They have worked tirelessly on this project and I hope young people from across the district will do at least one thing for the environment to make a difference.”
