Keeping Your District Safe
Over the last three years, our target has been to reduce crime in the district by 16%, The current projection for this year is that we will in fact exceed this target by 5%, making a 21% reduction in crime since 2003/04.
We would like residents to give us their views and participate in making their own community safer, by commenting on our new draft Community Safety Plan, available on the Mid Beds District Council Website (www.midbeds.gov.uk) for you to view.
A number of community safety priorities are set out in the draft plan. These were compiled by reviewing community concerns recorded in recent public consultation and patterns and levels of crime, anti-social behaviour and substance misuse over the last three years.
Examples of some of the priorities listed are:
Ø Reduce theft from vehicles and burglary from domestic and non-domestic properties
Ø Tackle nuisance, rowdy and onconsiderate behaviour
Ø Reduce re-offending
Ø Improve feelings of safety, particularly at night within communities and confidence in the criminal justice system
Please read the plan then email your comments to us at comsafe@midbeds.gov.uk or by calling on 01462 611120, by 30th April 2008.
Rob Parsons, Mid Beds District Council’s Community Safety manager said: “I would encourage people to take this opportunity to have a say on community safety in their towns or villages. This helps us set our priorities so that we can meet their aspirations for a better quality of life. All comments will be carefully considered and, integrated into the final version of the Community Safety Plan which in future will be reviewed annually.”
