Flitwick By-Election

Residents in Flitwick (East) have the opportunity to make things in Flitwick East even better, by voting in the Mid Beds District Council By-Election on Thursday 1st May.

The District By-Election has been called due to the sudden death of Councillor John Watton late last year.

Residents should by now have received their poll cards and will have the opportunity to pick and vote for their preferred candidate. The candidates are:

Chris Fryer (Green Party)
Roy Storey (Independent)
Les Thompson (Liberal Democrats)
Andrew Michael Turner (Conservatives)

Stephen Cooke, Electoral Services Manager at the council said: “This is the only election taking place in Bedfordshire, and could be the last before the Unitary Central Bedforshire elections next May or June.

“By getting involved, going out and voting, people can  bring about positive changes and vote for the candidate whom they feel promotes the issues that are most important to them.  If you don’t bother to vote then you can’t really complain about the outcome.”

The polling stations will be open between 7am and 10pm and are located at either Kingsmoor Lower School or St Andrews Hall, Windmill Road.  Voters should check their polling card for their polling station location.

The closing date for postal vote applications in time for this election has now passed.  Should any elector be unable to get to their polling station on 1 May and have missed the postal vote application deadline, they can apply to appoint a Proxy to vote on their behalf. The closing date to apply to appoint a proxy is Wednesday 23 April.

Postal Votes will be issued by First Class Post on Friday 18 April.

The election count will take place at Mid Beds District Council’s offices at  Priory House after the Polling stations close.  It is hoped the successful candidate will be declared before midnight.
