Shillington Gets £52k Boost

Shillington Village Hall was proud to re open its doors on Saturday (20 October) following a major renovation project, made possible by funding from Biffaward, Mid Beds District Council and Shillington Parish Council.

Sally Stapleton, the Chair of the Parish Council,  was delighted to perform the reopening ceremony and welcomed local residents into the hall to see the improvements that have been made.

The main hall has been redecorated, the floor has been replaced and both the kitchen and the servery have been refitted. The renovation has been completed with the installation of blackout blinds at the hall’s high level windows and picture rails around the circumference of the hall. Shillington can now boast of its multi purpose facility that can accommodate a wide variety of events including film shows, plays and art exhibitions.

The majority of the funding for this £52,000 project was provided by Biffaward, with the third party contribution required to release this award being provided by Mid Beds District Council. Councillor Anita Lewis, the Leisure, Culture and Safer Communities Portfolio Holder for Mid Beds District Council said “ Fund raising for such large scale projects can be daunting but once again Mid Beds District Council has been able to help a much used village facility to access the level of funding it required to bring it up to modern day standards”

Biffaward is a multi-million pound fund which uses landfill tax credits to support community and environmental projects near Biffa sites.  Through its partnership with Rural Action East, more than £2.5 million has been awarded to projects in the Eastern region to date.

Biffaward’s Chairman, Martin Bettington, said “Biffaward is delighted to support so many worthwhile projects in this region.  Community meeting places are incredibly important, and this project is an excellent example of what can be achieved when people and organisations work together.”
