Mid and South Beds Council agree Central Beds Unitary Plan

Mid and South Beds District Councils have agreed their plans for a unitary Central Bedfordshire Council at meetings held this week. They will now submit these plans to the Department for Communities and Local Government by their 17 December 2007 deadline.

Tricia Turner Leader of Mid Beds said: “We are on target to submit our proposals to Government by their deadline of 17th December, and expect to have an early announcement of the way forward after that.  We invited the County Council's endorsement of the proposals and are disappointed they did not contribute.

“Both districts feel it is crucial for our citizens, services and staff that we work together with both Bedford Borough and Bedfordshire County to ensure a smooth transition to these two new unitary authorities producing a better deal for all citizens, taxpayers, and customers in Bedfordshire.”
