Mid Beds First Past The Post To Tackle Climate Change

Mid Beds District Council is leading the way in Bedfordshire in the fight against climate change.

Chief Executive Jaki Salisbury signed the Nottingham Declaration on behalf of Mid Beds District Council at today’s Climate Change Conference – 'Moving to Another World' which took place at Marston Forest Centre today.

The declaration contains a series of commitments designed to put local government in the UK at the forefront of reducing the effects of climate change. Those authorities that sign up, agree to work with partners and local communities over the next two years to address the causes and impacts of climate change.

Mid Beds has already begun 'putting its own house in order',by  commissioning Cranfield University to measure the council’s carbon footprint as a baseline and recommend ways to reduce CO2 emissions throughout the authority.  The resulting action plan and performance targets will then be implemented over the next couple of years.

Jaki Salisbury said: “Our work in measuring our carbon footprint is an innovative piece of work for a district authority.  We have demonstrated that we are taking the effects of climate change seriously and have made the decision to actively do something about it”.
