All Change At Mid Beds
At its meeting last night, Mid Beds District Council confirmed its new Chairman for the 2007/08 municipal year.
Councillor Mrs Doreen Gurney (Con Potton & Wensley) was elected Chairman of the Council with Alan Bastable (Cranfield) elected as Vice-Chairman.
In addition, Councillor Tricia Turner (Con, Northill and Blunham) was returned unopposed as leader and she announced her new Cabinet following the departure of Councillors Jim Gardner and Richard Holden and Max Mc Murdo.
The New all Conservative Executive is now:
Leader - Tricia Turner (Northill and Blunham)
Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder (PFH) for Planning - Ken Matthews (Cranfield)
PFH - Quality, Policy and Performance Improvement - Stephen Male (Flitwick)
PFH Corporate Services - Mrs Jane Lawrence (Biggleswade Ivel)
PFH Finance - Maurice Jones (Biggleswade Ivel)
PFH Environmental Services - Mrs Jo Davison (Northill and Blunham)
PFH Leisure, Culture and Safer Communities - Mrs Anita Lewis (Potton and Wensley)
PFH Customer Services - Mrs Fiona Chapman (Aspley Guise)
Other notable changes to Committees included:
Development Control Committee:
Peter Vickers (Con.Biggleswade Holme) is the new chair, replacing Dennis Gale (Flitwick West). The new Vice-Chair is Howard Lockey (Con. Maulden & Clophill)
Chair of Scrutiny -
Mark Chapman (Lib Dem Shefford, Campton & Gravenhurst) replaces Cllr John Gurney as Chairman with Mrs Wendy Smith remaining as Vice-Chair.
Chair of Overview-
Alan Bastable (Con. Cranfield) is the new Chair of Overview replacing Stephen Male (Flitwick West) and Mike Gibson (Con. Marston) is the new Vice-Chair.
Audit Committee:
David Lawrence (Con. Biggleswade Stratton) will be Chairman of this new committee and his Vice-Chair is Lewis Birt (Con. Shefford, Campton & Gravenhurst)
Licensing and Regulation Committees:
John Lewis (Con. Potton & Wensley) remains Chairman with Lewis Birt (Con. Shefford, Campton & Gravenhurst) as new Vice-Chair. He replaces David Thompson (Con. Flitton, Greenfield) who lost his seat in this month's elections.
