11 MILLION Takeover Day

Young people in Mid Beds will take part in a national initiative on Friday 23 November, which will see 11 million children and young people in England given the opportunity to take over from the adults for the day.

Mid Beds District Council will host an event as part of this, at our Priory House offices, where children and young people from Middle and Upper Schools across the district, will be asked how they would like the council to bridge the gap between hard to reach groups in Mid Beds. Their ideas will then be fed back to Mid Beds’ Management Team in the afternoon, for them to action.

Bridging the gap with hard to reach groups in Mid Beds is a priority arising from Mid Beds’ own Community Plan.  Work has already begun with a successful Festival for Older People earlier this month and now young people are being asked to consider additional ways the council can engage with harder to reach groups, including people with disabilities; Gypsies and Travellers; and older people.

It is hoped the day will help students to gain a better understanding of the process of decision making at Mid Beds, to experience leadership and get a clearer picture of Local Democracy.
