Sustainable Community Strategy

To meet the requirements of the Local Government Act 2006, and following a period of research and consultation, the Mid Beds Sustainable Community Strategy 2008-2011 was developed and adopted by the Local Strategic Partnership in December 2007. It was also adopted as part of the Mid Beds District Council policy framework in January 2008.

The Strategy highlights the vision for Mid Bedfordshire as -

Mid Bedfordshire will be a place that celebrates its rural character and location where people can live and enjoy a high quality of life in a healthy and safe environment; where availability of decent and affordable housing is increased and supported by the creation of new jobs; where access to facilities and services is available for all and where the countryside and open space is shared and preserved for future generations.

Based on three themes People, Place and Lifestyle, the Strategy identifies the following ambitions:

People

Ambition - for all our residents to feel that they belong and have pride in themselves and the area in which they live

Place

Ambition - for Mid Bedfordshire to be a more sustainable place that contributes less to climate change, where new development has a positive impact on communities and is supported by necessary infrastructure

Lifestyle

Ambition - for Community members are empowered to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle with opportunities for culture, leisure and sport for all sectors and age groups. Sustainable transport and waste management are in place minimising negative environmental impact

The Strategy is intended to be a working document that, through its delivery, will help improve the quality of life for our community members.

The Strategy was developed based on evidence we have about the area, some of which is captured within the document.
Area Profiles have been created to provide more details about the different ward areas in the district.
