Mid Beds Population figures
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) Mid year population estimates give population estimates by sex and age are published annually. These estimates cover the periods between the census, which is undertaken every ten years. Results from the 2007 mid year population estimates (published by the ONS in August 2008) show that there are an estimated 133,900 people living in Mid Beds.

Health
The population of Mid Bedfordshire is relatively healthy compared with both England and the East of England. Life expectancy is higher than average and has been improving more quickly than the national average. There are relatively low death rates from heart disease, stroke and cancers, although these account for 7 out of every 10 premature deaths. Health inequalities exist. Life expectancy in the lowest fifth of wards across Mid Beds is 78 years compared to 81.7 years in the highest fifth of wards. Local Area
Mid Beds covers an area of some 500 square kilometres (50,000 hectares) and is accessible via a number of important north-south communications routes - the M1 in the west and A1 in the east. The A507 is the main highway for travelling east to west. The district is also served by good regional and national rail links, and it is close to Luton and Stansted airport.
