Site Allocations

Site Allocations

As part of the Local Development Framework process, the District Council must provide for at least 14,230 new homes and 14,000 new jobs between 2001 and 2021, in line with requirements contained in the East of England Plan and the Milton Keynes and South Midlands Sub Regional Strategy.  A number of these homes and jobs have already been provided or have planning permission, but to help to provide for the remainder we are seeking to identify land which could be allocated for residential and employment purposes.

Around 440 sites have now been submitted by landowners and developers to Mid Beds District Council for potential residential and commercial development. Only a very small number of these will need to be developed to meet Government targets. Alongside meeting these targets, improvements are also planned to local services and infrastructure.

Mid Beds District has undertaken two rounds of consultation on these sites this year:

  • During the first round in February - April over 10,700 responses were received, commenting upon around 370 initial potential development sites.
  • During July and August a second round of consultation was undertaken on 70 new sites and proposals. The consultation period closed on 19th August.

No other sites can now be suggested as part of this process and no further consultation can take place on the 440 sites as the deadline for submitting comments on all sites has now passed. However you can still view the sites and proposals submitted for potential development in your area by visiting the dedicated website www.talktomidbeds.co.uk

The results of the second round of consultation will be added to those already received to produce a final report to be  published online in October. Using these comments a list of preferred options for development will then be put forward and consulted on in early 2009.

Please keep on checking at www.talktomidbeds.co.uk for further updates.
