Leisure Mission Statement

Our Mission

The Mid Beds District Council Leisure Development Team works with the community to provide more and improved sport and leisure activities which are affordable, of good quality, accessible and relevant to all. The Leisure Development Team is part of a network of sports and leisure providers in the area, including voluntary sports clubs, schools and leisure centres. The team works closely with other sports development units in the County as part of the Beds Sport Partnership. The work of the Leisure Development Team is varied with the main focus areas including:

 

Working with Schools

  •  To enable every young person with the opportunity to learn foundation skills and participate in sport or physical activity and progress to wider opportunities.
  • To provide an opportunity for teachers to attend sports specific coaching courses and gain experience to enable them to teach children sport in a fun and enjoyable way.
  • By working with partners to enable children to participate at all levels in quality local and county activities.
  •  To provide quality events that enable children of all abilities to participate in an enjoyable environment and gain a sense of achievement in their endeavours.
  • To provide quality multi-activity programmes that enable children to learn and develop skills in a variety of sports and activities.     

Working with the Community

  • To provide a variety of sport and recreation programmes that cater for all abilities across the community.
  •  To develop new sports leaders from the community to help them reach their true potential and provide them with recognised qualifications for the benefit of the community.
  • To work with local, county, regional and national organisations to enhance sports provision within Mid Beds District for the benefit of residents and visitors.
  • To continue to remove barriers to participation through financial support and improved facilities.
  • To encourage schools and colleges to open up their facilities for wider community access for sporting activity.
  • To offer guidance and support on national grant aid for the development of structured programmes for the benefit of the local community.
  • To identify opportunities for special needs groups and for people with a disability to strive and meet their potential in their chosen activities.     

Working with Sports Clubs

  • To enable all members to actively participate in sport and physical activity in a safe, effective and child friendly environment.
  • To provide an enhanced range of fully accessible and integrated out of school sport activities.
  • To develop a series of events to provide opportunities for people to participate and be entertained.     

Providing for Elite Performance

  • To help develop individuals in their chosen sport through the support of coaches, officials and participants, allowing them to progress from foundation levels to performance and excellence.     

Coach Education and Coach Development

  • To facilitate coaches and volunteers with the opportunity to attain recognised standards for the benefit of the athletes, club and sport.
  • To provide continuous professional development opportunities for coaches.
