Why the name “Citizone”?
The Points of Presence (PoPs) are just one element of a programme of work to exploit the potential of Information Technology in order to provide better services to customers and reduce costs.
The Citizone name covers that entire programme of work including an internet portal www.citizone.org which gives access to the services of the three leading programme partners (Beds County Council, Mid Beds and South Beds District Councils).
There are 11 other associate partners many of which are not councils. It is also the case that some of the partners work beyond the boundaries of Bedfordshire. The name therefore deliberately avoids mention of location and councils. The name derives from a combination of citizen (because that is what the programme is focused on) and zone (a place to go).
