I have a business and wish to abide by Health & Safety legislation, who do I register with?
Health and Safety at Work legislation is enforced either by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) or the Local Authority where the business is located. The enforcement responsibility is determined on the following basis:
HSE - factories, farms, building sites, government offices;
Local Authorities - offices, warehouses, shops, hotels and catering, and leisure activities.
It is a legal requirement for businesses to contact the relevant enforcement body within the first 12 months of operating, The business can then be supplied with an OSR1 form to complete and return, and an initial inspection scheduled.
