Food Complaints
Environmental Services investigate food complaints, for example, selling food past its “use by date”, and foreign bodies or chemical contaminants within the food itself .
If you experience such a problem then there are two ways of dealing with it. You can take it back to the shop where you bought it from and deal with them direct and/or you could ask us to look into the matter for you. If the latter is of interest to you then you should keep the food/foreign object and contact Environmental Services on 08452-304040 or at customer.services@midbeds.gov.uk.
Selling items beyond their "use by" date is illegal because they could cause harm if consumed after this date. Selling items beyond their "best before" date is not illegal, but it is not good practice as it indicates poor stock control. The "best before" date is an indicator of when the quality of the product may begin to deteriorate, and does not relate to the safety of the product.
