Contaminated Land Strategy
Following an extensive review and public consultation, Mid Beds have launched their new Contaminated Land Strategy 2006-2011. Such a strategy is a requirement of the Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and sets out a five-year programme for inspecting the district to identify contaminated land sites and, where necessary, ensure their remediation occurs.
The focus of the new strategy is on:
• ensuring the Council meets its statutory obligations in a strategic manner
• taking timely and effective action to remedy land that is proven to be contaminated
• preventing further contamination being caused.
By taking these measures Mid Beds DC will help improve the environment, people’s health and their quality of life.
Copies of the strategy are available at Mid Beds’ Citizone Points of Presence in Biggleswade and Ampthill, local libraries, the Citizens Advice Bureau offices, or by request from Customer Services on 01462-611222 or 08452-304040 or at Customer.Services@midbeds.gov.uk. A pdf version of the strategy can be downloaded from this webpage.
