Household Chemicals and Pesticides

Creosote and Pesticides 'Bans': Advice to Householders

Creosote has been banned for sale to and for use by householders for a number of years now due to its cancer-causing potential, and therefore householders should have already disposed of their unused creosote. The use and storage of a large number of pesticides have also been banned and a list of these pesticides can be viewed on the Pesticides Safety Directorate web site.

Should you discover a banned pesticide or creosote then please dispose of them at a Civic Amenity Site (Tidy Tip). Garden chemicals should not be disposed of by householders down sinks, drains or lavatories or into water courses and ditches.

The National Household Hardous Waste Forum website provides lots of useful information relating to the use, disposal etc of garden chemicals.
