Flytipping

An item that has been fly-tipped is any refuse or bulky material that has been left on the highway or land without the owner's permission. These items are often unsightly, and can pose a danger to the public and therefore need to be removed quickly. These can include rubbish, large domestic waste items i.e fridges, mattresses or large amounts of waste from construction.

Flytipping is a criminal offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and carries a £2000 fine for those caught.

Due to recent changes in the legislation any trader removing rubbish on your behalf must carry a duty of care notice, which you should request a copy of when material is removed from your premises. They should also have a waste carriers license.

IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE ANYONE TRANSPORTING OR DISPOSING OF WASTE ON YOUR BEHALF HAS THE APPROPRIATE LICENCES.  For more information please click here

Any fly-tipped material, which traces back to an address, that address would receive the fixed penalty notice, of up to £100 for illegally dumped material.

Help us to keep your district clean and rubbish free.

Mid Beds District Council now has a rapid response unit which has been set up to tackle seriously dirty areas that cannot wait until the next scheduled clearing. The unit responds to public complaints about such “grotspots” as soon as they are received – often within 24 hours. This service has reduced the time it takes for rubbish to be cleared in the district from an average of 4 days to 1.5 days today.
