How do I claim?

If you claim Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance the Benefits Agency will give you form HCTB1 for you to claim Council Tax Benefit. You can claim Housing Benefit on the same form if you also pay rent.

Fill in the form and return it to the Council immediately.

If you have not claimed or are not entitled to Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance

You need to fill in an application form for Council Tax Benefit. Forms are available from the council offices at Ampthill and Biggleswade. You can claim Housing Benefit on the same form if you also pay rent.

Fill in the form and return it to the council immediately.Our address is on the form. If you do not send the form in immediately you could lose Benefit.

If you need help to fill in the form staff at the Ampthill and Biggleswade offices will be able to assist you. If you unable to come to the offices please contact the Customer Accounts Section who will be able to help you.

If you work for an employer

You must send us your last 5 payslips if weekly paid or your last 2 payslips if monthly paid.

If you have just started work and do not have enough payslips, do not delay sending your form back.We will let you know what information we need.

If you are self employed 

Please send us your most recent accounts. If you cannot do this, contact us for more advice.

If you cannot send all the information needed 

It will speed up your claim if you return the form with all the proof needed. If you cannot send in all of the information needed return the form with a note explaining what is missing. Do not delay returning the form or you may lose Benefit.
