Bedfordshire Transport Tokens

Latest News: January 2008-------------------------------
A Transport Token scheme devised and introduced by Mid Beds District Council over five years ago, for young people in the district, is now going countywide.

Members of the Youth Parliament with support from Mid Beds Youth Participation Officer, Katy Henman, have successfully secured a grant of £50,000 from the Youth Opportunities Fund. This money will be used to extend the Transport Token scheme across Bedfordshire, to help tackle rural isolation among some young people, and improve access to activities and youth engagement projects. -----------------------------------------------End of Latest News

Would you like to attend a youth club, youth project, or organised activity, but you can't get there because you have no transport, there are no buses, or you live in a rural area?

Here at Mid Beds District Council we have a scheme running for young people aged between 8-19 years, who either live in Bedfordshire, or go to school in Bedfordshire.  If this is you, then you could benefit from a free taxi, train or bus to your project!

Youth projects, or organisations are given a pot of transport tokens (like plastic money) which they can then give to you to spend in taxi's, Thameslink or WAGN trains (First Capital Connect), or Stagecoach buses.  You can use the tokens just like normal money with any of these transport companies and get to your project, or club on us!

There are 25 different projects who are members of the taxi token scheme, ranging from:

  • Home Education
  • YIP/YOT
  • Youth Service
  • Town Councils
  • Schools
  • Voluntary Sector Groups:
  • Theatre group
  • Scouts
  • Youth charity
  • youth led action projects
  • community gardens charity

If you want to find out if your project has tokens, or you want more information on how you as a project can join the scheme, then email Katy Henman or call 01462 611008.
