Housing Register
The Housing Register
If you wish to apply for social rented housing in Mid Beds you would need to complete an application form and join the joint Mid Beds-Aragon housing register.
The Council does not own any council houses for rent, but it does maintain a Housing Register to deal with the demand for rented homes. All social rented housing in the district (including what were previously Council houses) is owned by Housing Associations (now often referred to as Registered Social Landlords or RSLs). To obtain an application form or contact Aragon Housing Association who operate the Housing Register on the Council’s behalf:

Anyone 16 or above can apply to the Council’s Housing Register.
The Council assesses each application and awards a level of priority for housing based on each person’s individual circumstances. Extra priority is awarded to applicants that have a local connection with Mid Beds. Aragon, on the Council’s behalf, nominates applicants from the Register with the greatest housing need to the properties owned by the housing association as they become available.

Choice Based Letting Scheme from April 2008
The way in which allocations and assessments are completed will change from April 2008 with the introduction of the Choice Based Lettings Scheme (CBL). The introduction of Choice Based Letting by 2010 is one of the Government’s high-level policy targets and meets the requirement of the Housing Act 1996 as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002. The key element of any scheme is an allocation policy that addresses choice, balances housing needs and is easily understood. The CBL scheme will give people more choice to determine where they want to live and what sort of property they want to live in. We, along with our partners and the other sub-regions, anticipate that this scheme will be a major success.
