Planning Legislation and Sites

Most building development, for example, houses, extensions, conservatories,  change of business use, and Gypsy and Traveller sites, needs to have planning permission before it can be carried out.

Gypsies and Travellers are subject to the same planning system in the same way as any other person, and caravan site developments are subject to the same policies and guidance like any others.

Local authorities are not required to build Gypsy and Traveller sites but where they do there is Government grant funding to cover the cost of this. The requirement on local authorities is to identify land that is suitable for sites, just as they identify land for businesses or for other types of housing.

If you would like more information on purchasing land and developing a Gypsy or Traveller site please contact Mid Beds Planning Service or telephone 01462 611222.  We will be happy to give advice and guidance before land is purchased and possibly developed unlawfully.

Planning and Enforcement information is also available on an audio CD. Please contact customer services for a copy.

PLANNING AID provides free, independent and professional town planning advice and support to communities and individuals who cannot afford to pay planning consultant fees. It complements the work of local planning authorities but is wholly independent of them.
