Community Safety
As a result of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, which was amended by The Police Reform Act 2002, local authorities were given specific duties to undertake and address crime and the fear of crime. This resulted in the creation of the Community Safety Team here at Mid Beds District Council.
The team undertakes much of its work in partnership with other statutory partners and many diverse groups and agencies. We also manage the district's CCTV system, support members of the public who wish to set up Community Safety Groups in their local areas and undertake community risk surveys to identify solutions to localised problems.
You can also get involved in our new Community Safety Fora initiative that invites members of the community to express their concerns and raise issues in regard to Community Safety in their neighbourhood. So far, we have a forum in Ampthill and Biggleswade.
The Council's Youth and Community Safety Officer, as a member of the team, works with young people across the district to address community safety issues.
We also host the Mid Beds Anti-Social Behaviour Reduction Co-ordinator team, work alongside other Council service areas and a range of external agencies to effectively tackle complaints of anti-social behaviour.
The team also oversee the contributions made to community safety by each of the Council's service areas.
