The Local Area Agreement – The Overarching Delivery Plan
The Community Safety Partnership Plan for Mid Bedfordshire fits within the strategic context of the new Local Area Agreement (LAA) for Bedfordshire. The LAA is a county-wide delivery plan for the Sustainable Community Strategy and starts in July 2008.
The overarching priorities for community safety for Bedfordshire identified in the new LAA are:
- Reducing crime
- Tackling anti-social behaviour
- Reducing the fear of crime
The indicators chosen from the National Indicator Set (NIS) by the Joint Community Safety Responsible Authorities Group (RAG) as improvement targets in the LAA are:
- NI16 – serious acquisitive crime rate
- NI30 – re-offending rate of prolific and priority offenders
- NI32 – repeat incidents of domestic violence
- NI40 – drug users in effective treatment
The Community Safety Partnership Plan gives a comprehensive picture of the resources, actions and targets for Mid Bedfordshire that underpins the LAA.
Links to other Plans and Strategies – Joining-up the delivery of Community Safety
Community safety is an important issue for all and cuts across the work of partnerships and agencies focussed on supporting children and young people, health and wellbeing and economic growth and the environment.
Developing local actions which encompass these cross-cutting issues will be a key part of the work undertaken by the partnership in the coming months in both continued development of local action plans, and in the delivery of those actions to address the key priorities for Mid Beds.
There are 3 Partnership Plans being produced within the County and the plans for Mid and South Bedfordshire will form the basis for the Central Beds Unitary Authority Plan from 2009 onwards. Until that time and for so long as the County remains a two-tier structure the 3 Plans are linked together both by the LAA and Sustainable Community Strategy as well as the newly established County Community Safety Agreement.
