Demolitions

Information about demolishing a building

Buildings to be demolished are subject to legal requirements administered by the Building Control staff - all in the interest of safety to the public and adjoining owners/occupiers.

In most instances if you wish to demolish a building or part, you are required to notify the Local Authority in writing, giving 28 days notice.  A copy of the notice should also be sent to other interested parties, such as the occupier of any adjacent building, and the local gas and electricity authorities. You can download a Demoliton Notice Form.

A counter notice may be served on you that may require you to carry out works to services and adjoining buildings. This is to ensure that gas, electricity and water supplies are made safe, redundant drains are sealed, affected buildings are properly supported and weatherproofed, and on completion debris is removed and the site made safe.

There are certain requirements with regards the control of pollution arising from construction/demolition work.
